Retired National Park historian and author Terry Winschel will be our battelfield guide for this in-depth 3-day tour of the Vicksburg Campaign. The legendary Edwin C. Bearss, Chief Historian Emeritus of the National Park Service, will accompany this tour as our special guest. Together Ed and Terry have served a combined 45 years as park historians at Vicksburg National Military Park.

Each year, our sister company, South Mountain Expeditions offers a WWII tour.

We are pleased to announce a new itinerary for this autumn.

 

September 15/16-27, 2019

Air Forces in WWII Germany

The focus of this tour is on air operations in Germany during the Second World War.  Our tour will begin in Prague and end in Amsterdam. We will examine the famous Dambusters' Raid with an interpretive stop at the Möhne Dam. We will tour Colditz Castle, the famous POW camp for Allied officers who had repeatedly escaped from other camps. In Dresden, we will hear of the fire-bombings and in Berlin, we will look at how the bombing raids impacted the citizens of the then Nazi capital. We will cross into Poland to tour Stalag (Luft) III which which was featured in the film ‘The Great Escape.’ On the Baltic Sea, we will tour Peenemünde where Wernher von Braun’s team developed the V-2. In the Netherlands we will discuss Operation Market Garden with sites pertinent to the 82nd Airborne and Arnhem's "A Bridge too Far." Led by popular historian guide, Bill McQuade, and special guest WWII veteran historian Ed Bearss.
