Battlefield Guides
The legendary Ed Bearss and author Jeff Wert are scheduled to lead this tour.

Travel with Ed Bearss and Jeff Wert as we examine the Battle of Gettysburg for 4 days.  We will follow the troops as they clashed on July 1, 2, & 3, including the action at East Cavalry Field.  We will also visit sites pertaining to Lincoln’s visit to Gettysburg in November 1863 for the dedication of the National Cemetery. One evening, we will make special arrangements for a private, behind-the-scenes tour of the historic Gettysburg Cyclorama. We will also take a private tour of "Lost Avenue."

Wednesday – April 19
7:00 pm Gather for a lecture by historian Jeff Wert at the Days Inn Gettysburg.

Thursday – April 20
Follow the action of July 1, 1863 when Confederate forces converged on the borough of Gettysburg from west and north.  We will see how they drove Union defenders back through the streets of town to Cemetery Hill. During the night, reinforcements arrived for both sides. We will visit the Gettysburg Museum & Visitor Center. After viewing the film and the Cyclorama program, we will stay for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Cyclorama painting.

Friday – April 21
Continue to walk the ground as we visit sites pertaining to July 2.  Learn how Lee attempted to envelop the Federals, first striking the Union left flank at the Peach Orchard, Wheatfield, Devil’s Den, and the Round Tops with Longstreet’s and Hill’s divisions.  Continue to Culp’s Hill where Confederate troops attacked the Union right flank.

Saturday – April 22
During the morning of July 3, the Confederate infantry were driven from Culp’s Hill. In the afternoon, Lee attacked the Union center on Cemetery Ridge. The Pickett-Pettigrew-Trimble assault (Pickett’s Charge) momentarily pierced the Union line but was driven back with severe casualties.  We will conclude the day with a private tour to see the monuments on "Lost Avenue;" they mark the far right flank of the Union army on July 3.

Sunday – April 23
Two significant cavalry battles took place on July 3rd . We’ll hear about both as we visit East Cavalry Field and a field near Big Round Top, sometimes called South Cavalry Field.  We will end the day with sites connected to Lincoln’s visit to Gettysburg in November 1863 for the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery.  We plan to return to the Days Inn by 4:30-5:00 pm.
